WHO WE ARE

GAR is a national alliance of grassroots organizations rooted in working-class pan-Asian immigrant and refugee communities. We cohere our communities around a shared progressive agenda and build the leadership, politics, and capacity of grassroots organizations.

As an ecosystem of strong grassroots organizations, we organize for a world where our working-class immigrant and refugee communities have dignity, safety, and justice.

OUR THEORY OF CHANGE

Our work is grounded in the leadership of grassroots organizations and working-class community members, who know that to win what our communities deserve, we need to build a movement powerful enough to make justice inevitable.

What’s the problem?

We need a national vehicle to unite local organizations improving the everyday conditions of working-class, pan-Asian communities.

Newer organizations are attempting to catch up to the needs of emerging communities in less resourced regions of the country.

The rise of multiple right-wing forces is creating division and hindering progressive organizing and multi-racial solidarity.

What’s our solution?

Grow the capacity of base-building organizations to more effectively organize the working-class, pan-Asian communities.

Embed GAR within broader BIPOC movements for racial, gender, and economic justice.

Build up our national structures around decision making, resources, shared narrative.

Unite a movement ecosystem to more quickly respond to moments of crises connecting to a longer-term strategy.

We will grow the number of grassroots, base-building organizations to win material changes for our working-class, pan-Asian communities. Ultimately, this work will allow us to build movements that are more effective and sustainable.
